For reversible coupling of proteins to Sepharose 4B via a glutathione spacer arm

  • Gel reacts with heavy metal ions and with alkyl and aryl halides
  • Addition reactions occur with compounds containing C=O, C=C, and N=N bonds
  • Less substituted but more porous than Thiopropyl Sepharose 6B
  • Suitable for covalent chromatography of large molecules such as enzymes and nucleic acids
  • Possible to couple proteins lacking thiol groups to thiol gels using the heterobifunctional reagent SPDP, facilitating use of covalent chromatography
