Reversed Phase Liquid Chromatography (RP-LC)

RP-LC is the most common principle of HPLC/UHPLC separation mode. The mode retains compounds with hydrophobic and organic functional groups. Separation in RP-LC is governed by a combination of hydrophobic and van der Waals interactions between the analytes and the stationary phase, as well as interactions with the mobile phase, resulting in stronger retention of more hydrophobic compounds.

HILIC

HILIC (Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography) is a powerful separation mode for polar organic compounds that are difficult to retain using conventional reversed‑phase methods. In reversed‑phase chromatography, these polar analytes often elute near the solvent front or within regions prone to significant ion suppression, leading to poor separation and sensitivity.

Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)

Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is a separation technique in which analytes are resolved exclusively based on molecular size. Separation occurs through differential access to the pores of the column packing material: larger molecules are excluded from the pores and therefore elute first, while smaller molecules penetrate the pores more extensively, resulting in longer retention times and later elution.

Chiral HPLC

Chiral column chromatography is a technique used to separate enantiomers using an HPLC column packed with a chiral stationary phase (CSP). Enantiomeric separation is achieved through differences in the number and type of interactions each enantiomer forms with the CSP during passage through the column. While some chiral stationary phases are capable of resolving a broad range of chiral compounds, others are designed for selective separation of specific classes of enantiomers.

Normal Phase HPLC

Normal phase chromatography is a type of chromatographic separation technique used in analytical chemistry to separate compounds based on their polarity. In normal-phase chromatography, the stationary phase is polar, while the mobile phase is non-polar. This means that compounds with higher polarity tend to interact more strongly with the stationary phase, causing them to move more slowly through the column, while less polar compounds move more quickly.

Phenomenex Sample Prep

Sample preparation is a critical first step in achieving accurate and reproducible analytical results.  Phenomenex's comprehensive portfolio of sample preparation products is designed to support a wide range of matrices, analytes, and analytical techniques. From plasma and serum to food, water, and complex biopharmaceutical samples, these high‑performance solutions help streamline workflows, enhance sensitivity, and safeguard analytical instruments.

Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)

Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is a sample preparation extractive technique used in laboratories to clean-up, solvent switch, and concentrate samples prior to analysis with methods like HPLC or GC. Solid phase extraction is essential to achieve effective separations from complex mixtures by selectively isolating target analytes whilst removing unwanted contaminants, thereby achieving more accurate and precise analytical results.

Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE)

Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE) is a simple, reliable sample preparation technique that delivers cleaner extracts with minimal hands-on time. By performing liquid–liquid partitioning on an inert solid sorbent rather than in conventional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), SLE avoids emulsion formation, inconsistent mixing, and manual phase separation. The aqueous sample is immobilized within the sorbent bed, enabling a water-immiscible organic solvent to pass through and extract analytes with high efficiency. The result is a fast, reproducible workflow ideal for subsequent LC and GC analyses.

Phospholipid Removal

Phospholipids reduce HPLC/UHPLC column lifetime and sensitivity and are also responsible for ion suppression. Phospholipids are present in many bioanalytical samples including whole blood and plasma. As the number of applications being developed from bioanalytical samples increases, the removal of phospholipids from the sample prior to LC-MS/MS analysis has become an important step for accurate analysis.

Protein Precipitation

Proteins in biological sample matrices can significantly shorten HPLC/UHPLC column lifetimes and can interfere with MS detector sensitivity. Protein precipitation is a simple sample preparation technique that is used to remove proteins from the sample using an organic solvent or a salt.

Oligonucleotide Purification

Oligonucleotide purification is the process of isolating full-length synthetic DNA or RNA sequences from impurities generated during chemical synthesis. These impurities may include truncated sequences, incomplete coupling products, residual protecting groups, salts, and organic reagents. Effective purification ensures recovery of only the target oligonucleotide with the correct sequence and chemical integrity for downstream use in applications such as PCR, gene synthesis, and therapeutic development. As a result, accurate and efficient oligonucleotide purification is a critical step in maintaining sequence  integrity, high purity, and reproducibility across both research and manufacturing workflows.

Phenomenex Gas Chromatography

Gas chromatography (GC) delivers high sensitivity, low sample requirements, excellent separation efficiency, and rapid analysis—making it well suited for detecting trace‑level compounds in complex matrices. Building on these strengths, Phenomenex Zebron™ GC columns provide low bleed, reliable retention, and extended column lifetimes to support precise and reproducible results.

Zebron PLUS GC Columns

Active sites on a traditional GC column’s surface can result in analyte adsorption and degradation, which negatively affect peak shape and response. Zebron PLUS GC Columns are designed with a rigorous fused silica deactivation process to give you exceptional inertness, reduced bleed, improved peak shape and aqueous stability.
