Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best material for media bottles?

Plastic media bottles are lightweight and impact resistant. They are recommended for use when unbreakable containers are needed or for work at low temperatures. Glass bottles can withstand higher temperatures and they are also available in darker glass suitable for working with light-sensitive materials.

Can plastic bottles be autoclaved?

Generally, polypropylene, PTFE, PFA, and PMP materials can be autoclaved, but temperatures higher than 80°C can affect the accuracy of volumetric vessels. Always refer back to the product technical guide and remember to loosen any caps before autoclaving.

What kind of detergents can I use on my plastic bottles?

Ideally, a low or non-alkaline detergent should be used as some plastics such as polystyrene and polycarbonate are susceptible to alkalis. Avoid abrasive materials and wash below 60°C if using an electric washer. For further information check the product guide.
