Synonym: BLA-S, Cytovirin, Blasticidine S Hydrochloride, 4-[[3-Amino-5-[(Aminoiminomethyl)-1-Oxopentyl]Amino]-1-(4-Amino-2-Oxo-1(2H)-Pyrimidinyl)-1,2,3,4-Tetradeoxy-b-D-Erythro-Hex-2-Enopyranuronic Acid

Blasticidin S hydrochloride is a broad spectrum nucleoside antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. It is suitable for selection of cells carrying plasmids conferring blasticidin resistance. Blasticidin S is used as a selection agent for transformed cells that contain the resistance genes bls, bsr, or BSD, has been used to select HEK293-T cells with TLR-2 constructs and HEK-D5 cells, and is also used to study protein synthesis at the level of peptide bond formation.
