Description

The carbohydrate nature of the agarose base provides a hydrophilic and chemically favorable environment for coupling. The highly crosslinked structure of the 34 μm spherical matrix ensures good chromatographic properties.

  • Blue Sepharose High Performance is a group specific adsorbent with affinity for a wide variety of enzymes
  • The dye ligand, Cibacron Blue F3G-A, is covalently attached to the matrix via the triazine part of the dye molecule
  • Some proteins interact biospecifically with the dye due to its structural similarity with nucleotide cofactors NAD+ and NADP+
  • Other proteins such as albumin and interferon, bind in a less specific manner by electrostatic and/or hydrophobic interactions with the aromatic anionic ligand
  • Dye ligands have greater versatility, which allows purification of several proteins without tedious preparation of a range of gels
  • The chemical stability of the adsorbent allows its continued re-use
  • Loss of activity through storage is not an issue
