Hexacarbonyltungsten is used as a precursor to a Fischer carbine complex, which used in the hiyama cross-coupling reactions. It is widely used in electron beam-induced deposition technique as well as a source of tungsten atoms. It is utilized to desulfurize organosulfur compounds.
