Description

IMDM with- L-Glutamine, without Alpha-Thioglycerol, without Beta-Mercaptoethanol, is a Dulbecco's modification and is considered a more complex and enriched media.

  • IMDM is utilized for specialized cell types and serves as the basis for unique serum-free media formulations.
  • The original formulation demonstrated that erythrocytes and macrophage precursor cells, including primary haemopoietic cells, could be cultured in a defined serum-free medium when supplemented with albumin, lecithin, selenium, and transferrin.
  • IMDM is a modification of DMEM containing selenium, additional amino acids, vitamins, and other components.
  • IMDM is a highly enriched synthetic medium well suited for rapidly proliferating and high-density cell cultures in a 5% CO2 atmosphere.
  • IMDM reportedly supports murine B lymphocytes, haemopoietic tissues from bone marrow, lipopolysaccharide-stimulated B-cells, T-lymphocytes, and a wide variety of hybrid cells.
  • When used with serum, IMDM supports a broad spectrum of mammalian cell types, including bone marrow cells, hybridomas, and lymphocytes.
  • Modified as follows:
    • With L-Glutamine
    • With Phenol Red
    • With Sodium Bicarbonate
    • With HEPES
    • Without Beta Mercaptoethanol
    • Without Alpha-Thioglycerol
