Description
Isolate, differentiate and enumerate enterococci from food samples using Thermo Scientific™ Kanamycin Aesculin Azide Selective Medium, a selective microbiological media which contains a number of different selective agents.
Addition of the selective inhibitory components kanamycin sulphate and sodium azide, in addition to an indicator system, detect the growth of aesculin-hydrolysing streptococci. These organisms produce black zones around the colonies due to the formation of black iron phenolic compounds derived from aesculin-hydrolysis products and ferrous iron.
