Presumptively confirm the presence of Legionellaceae from clinical and environmental samples with ready-to-use Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Legionella BCYE Medium without Cysteine. Presumptive confirmation of Legionella is based on the fact that Legionellaceae have an absolute nutritional requirement for L-cysteine. Comparing presence and absence of growth of a sample on Legionella BYCE medium with and without Cysteine can be regarded as providing presumptive confirmation of Legionella species.

Use Legionella BCYE Medium without Cysteine for the presumptive confirmation of Legionella species.

Legionellaceae have an absolute nutritional requirement for L-cysteine. Presumptive Legionella species are subcultured on both Legionella BYCE Medium with Cysteine and Legionella BYCE Medium without Cysteine. After incubation at 35oC, the colonies which have grown on Legionella BYCE Medium with Cysteine, but not on Legionella BYCE Medium without Cysteine, can be regarded as presumptive Legionella spp.
