Gibco™ Terrific Broth

Gibco Terrific Broth is a ready-to-use liquid growth medium used for bacterial culture. Our filter-sterilized Terrific Broth can be used for nearly all research applications that require a liquid bacterial culturing step, such as protein expression, cloning, and expansion.

Terrific Broth is a nutritionally rich bacterial medium for higher density growth and maintenance of recombinant E. coli strains. It was specifically developed to achieve higher plasmid DNA yield from E. coli and can yield 4–7 times more DNA from pUC-based vectors compared to LB medium. This versitle broth is also useful for processing a large number of different clones from smaller cultures. 

Terrific Broth formulation per liter
11.8 g Tryptone
23.6 g Yeast extract
9.4 g Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate
2.2 g Potassium dihydrogen phosphate
4 mL Glycerol (0.4%)

• TB medium contains higher concentration of yeast extract compared to other media
• Offers better buffering capacity due higher salt concentrations
• Added glycerol has a stabilizing effect on recombinant proteins

Primary applications
• Growth of E. coli strains to achieve higher plasmid yield
• Expression of recombinant proteins using bacteria

Gibco media bottles
Each media bottle features an angled opening for simplified pipetting. The 1 L Gibco media bottle uses 39% less source material than comparable media bottles on the market. Both the cap and bottle can be recycled as they are made from highly recyclable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PETE).
